Kaitlyn Ausborn is an Iowa native whose career has been defined by service, advocacy, and a deep commitment to supporting individuals and families in her community through her work at the Cerro Gordo County Attorney’s Office and her volunteer work with numerous non-profit organizations.

Born and raised in Mason City with her five siblings, she graduated from Newman Catholic High School before earning degrees in History and Political Science from the University of Iowa. Kaitlyn earned her law degree from Drake University Law School, where she served as Executive Editor of the Agricultural Law Journal and participated in the Iowa Organization of Women Attorneys.

After passing the Iowa Bar, she returned home to Mason City to practice Social Security Disability and Personal Injury law, advocating for clients navigating complex systems and life-altering challenges. Kaitlyn joined the Cerro Gordo County Attorney’s Office in 2019 as an Assistant County Attorney, where her work centers on supporting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Her lifelong connection to the criminal justice system, established by her father’s career in law enforcement, gives her a unique understanding of the needs of victims, families, and first responders. Kaitlyn works closely with local law enforcement and community partners to pursue justice and ensure victims receive the support they need. She is an active member of the North Iowa Domestic and Sexual Abuse Coalition and participates in multiple professional organizations focused on victim advocacy and prosecution.

Her experience ranges from prosecuting homicide and child pornography cases to OWIs and traffic offenses. Kaitlyn has stood by community members during some of their most difficult times. Her approach to justice emphasizes compassion, accountability, and collaboration across agencies and organizations.

Her contributions to Cerro Gordo County also include volunteer work for an array of organizations, including Kiwanis, Wright on the Park, and the Salvation Army Advisory Board, where she previously served as president.

Kaitlyn and her husband, Kendal Ausborn, a fourth-grade teacher at Roosevelt Elementary, are the parents of two sons. A German Shepherd and a cat complete their family. In her spare time, Kaitlyn enjoys reading, barre classes, kayaking, and spending time with friends.
